A Few Facts

Many of you reading already know these things, but I’m sure you’d agree that facts and stats like this never get tiresome of hearing. Obviously, when the Bible was written, mankind had no way of knowing, on a scientific level, proof of these wondrous things.

Taken from the Old Testament…

Fact.  The earth floats free in space; it hangs on nothing.  God clearly explains this in the book of Job:

God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. (Job 26:7)

Fact.  The ocean is very deep. Almost all the ocean floor is in total darkness and the pressure there is enormous. Until recently, it was thought that oceans were fed only by rivers and rain. Yet in the mid 70s, with the help of deep diving research submarines that were constructed to withstand 6,000 pounds-per-square-inch pressure, oceanographers discovered springs on the ocean floors!  God already knew.  He created them and he talked about them a very long time ago, again speaking to Job:

Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep? (Job 38:16)

Fact.  Scientists have discovered that the human body is comprised of some 28 base and trace elements – all of which are found in the earth. God also told us this a long time ago; in the beginning of the creation account found in Genesis:

Then the Lord God formed a man. He made him out of the dust of the ground. God breathed the breath of life into him. And the man became a living person. (Genesis 2:7)

More facts:

  • The Bible was written over a period of some 1,500 years, from around 1450 B.C. (the time of Moses) to about 100 A.D. (following the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ).
  • The Bible contains 66 books – 39 books in the Old Testament (the old covenant) and 27 books in the New Testament (through Jesus, the new covenant and our salvation).
  • The Bible was written by 40 different people, in 3 different languages, on 3 different continents.  Despite being “penned” by so many different authors, all proclaimed the same one true God, and the same one way of salvation — Jesus Christ.
  • Fulfilled prophecies: 3,268 verses.
  • At least 20 million Bibles are currently sold each year in the US; in addition, tens of millions that are distributed for free.
  • Bookstore owners claim the Bible is the most shoplifted book on their shelves.
  • The Bible has no historical errors or contradictions. (NONE!!)
  • As of 2014, the Bible has been translated into 531 languages, and 2,883 languages with at least some portion of scripture translated. Just to compare, Shakespeare, considered by many to be the master writer of the English language, has only been translated into 75 languages.

In closing, here is one of my favorites taken from the book of Genesis:

Then God said, “Let the waters be full of living things. Let birds fly above the earth in the open space of the heavens.” God made the big animals that live in the sea, and every living thing that moves throughout the waters by its kind, and every winged bird after its kind. And God saw that it was good. God wanted good to come to them, saying, “Give birth to many. Grow in number. Fill the waters in the seas. Let birds grow in number on the earth.” (Genesis 1:20-22)

“The chicken or the egg” dilemma — solved!!  :)

Holding fast,

  1. Makes sense now. We try to complicate things instead of looking with understanding.
